Joint mobilization and/or manipulation is a technique used to decrease pain and increase function to joints within the body, most often the spinal column. These techniques can range from small, low-velocity movements of the joint to high-velocity, “thrusting” type motions. High-velocity, large angle and rotational manipulations (preferred by chiropractors) have failed to consistently decrease pain and restore motion to spinal segments over the long-term. Conversely, low-velocity joint mobilization has been more predictable in reducing pain and restoring motion with minimal risk to the patient.
At Inner Circle, we utilize low-velocity joint mobilization to assist in patient recovery only after reducing abnormal restrictions caused by muscle and fascia. We feel that gross spinal manipulation is detrimental to the body and is used too frequently and aggressively. Most importantly, these manipulations are only increasing mobility to the hypermobile joint, rather than the spinal segment that needs mobilization. Our combination of techniques will allow more lasting functional improvements with less potential risk of injury to the patient.
Our hands-on approach, utilizing manual therapy and exercise, has helped even the most difficult diagnoses (including fibromyalgia, herniated discs, arthritis, orthopedic injuries and other chronic pain syndromes) to change and heal.
Inner Circle’s hope for the future is to continue to grow, support and provide the optimal physical therapy service in our community.
At Inner Circle, our focus is on you and not your diagnosis. Our hands on approach is non-invasive and gentle, but effective. You are in control of your health, we are here to help! Fill out the form below or reach out to one of our locations today to schedule an appointment!
